Infinity Ward has plans for ‘Fortnite-like’ events in Warzone

Recommended Posts

Infinity Ward’s Narrative Director Taylor Kurosaki, who was one of the leads on the Modern Warfare campaign, has sat down for an interview with VentureBeat to talk about how the studio has been able to keep a narrative going in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare world with the new seasons and Warzone.

The studio has used the in-game intro cinematic for each season to carry on the overall narrative that the studio wants to tell with the game. The second season trailer showcased the return of Ghost and how he was asking Price for allies in the fight; the third season trailer showed that Soap sent in Alex to help.

Now, Kurosaki says the studio is looking at continuing the story through seasons and showcasing to fans a deeper look into the overall story of the universe.

Taylor Kurosaki: We’ve talked a lot in the past about whether games like Fortnite have a narrative. I would say yes, absolutely. I’d say Warzone does as well. But for me, it’s in a genre and a tone that I greatly prefer.

He also confirmed, more interestingly, that there are currently plans in the world to have some Fortnite like events in Warzone. The VentureBeat reporter made a comparison to Fortnite’s blackhole event, which left the game in a black screen for a few days. Infinity Ward says they are working on similar kind of events for Warzone, but it will all fit into the overall world of Modern Warfare and shine through Warzone as well.

VentureBeat: There are things you could do with the world. I think of things that Fortnite has done, like the eclipse they had for a couple of days.
